The company was established in April 2000 by two friends who met in college in the 80's.
After losing touch for a couple of years they met again by coincidence and it turned out
both had ended up earning their tracks in the telecommunications industry. They decided
to go into business together and after careful market research the company concept was
developed, a sound business plan written and investors found. Following the successful
launch of no frills telecom services in several European countries, in late 2003 the
company launched its 1899 Indirect Access service in the United Kingdom in partnership
with one of the largest Italian telecom carriers.
Becoming rapidly known as the ‘‘0.5p per minute-carrier’’, 1899.com can offer exceptionally
low tariffs due to the use of state of the art technology and a constant focus on lowering
the operational costs.
